Every morning, I now have the problem of having to take my thyroid medication, and then having to wait at least half an hour before I can have breakfast!
If I don’t have to be anywhere in a hurry, there is no problem if I drift back to sleep….but if I have to be somewhere early, then I have to keep myself awake….somehow…
But I have found a solution!
I now start my day by drinking the juice of half a lemon squeezed into a large glass of warm water ….I have discovered that not only will it keep me awake, but it has many health benefits, some of which are particularly good for someone like me who has no thyroid.
So for My Friday Five this week, I will list some of the many benefits of starting your day by drinking warm lemon juice!

Lemon juice is a rich source of vitamin C which is essential nutrient to help protect the body’s immune system….and this will help fight those horrible winter viruses that are everywhere at the moment.
It also contains potassium that stimulates brain and nerve function, and helps control blood pressure.
And if you do end up with a sore throat, lemon juice is perfect for getting rid of the infection!
Lemon juice is reported to be very good for the gastrointestinal tract…and can help to relieve symptoms of indigestion, such as heartburn, belching and bloating.
Plus, it assists in cleaning out the bowel, and helps to get rid of waste more efficiently!
So by drinking warm lemon juice first thing, you can get your digestion running smoothly, and ready to face the day!
I always wondered why the smell of lemon can brighten my mood….lemon juice apparently has mood enhancing and energizing properties..it can even assist with depression and anxiety.
I also read that is it one of the few foods that contain more negative charged ions…this provides your body with more energy…something which I always need more of!
Lemon juice is like a natural solvent, which removes uric acid that causes joint pain and inflammation.
As lemon juice is full of vitamin C which assists in the production of collagen, it can assist to decrease wrinkles and blemishes.
Plus, because lemon juice gets rid of toxins from the blood, it can also help keep skin clear!

As with anything nowadays, you will find lots of pros and cons about drinking lemon juice on the internet, but I have read enough to give it a try…it’s quick to prepare, it gives me something to drink while waiting to make my breakfast, plus we have a supply of fresh lemons as we are blessed with a lemon tree in our garden!
