Our old faithful dishwasher bit the dust about 6 weeks ago…at first, washing dishes was a bit of a novelty, then became annoying and frustrating…and messy…I hate having dishes drying on the bench.

Plus we have developed an ant problem in this place…any dirty dish left for more then 10 minutes attract a swarm of ants which seemingly come from nowhere.

But we kept procrastinating and putting off getting a new one until last Friday…I had had enough…we went to our nearest white goods store and bought one that was on sale AND in stock.

And yesterday, it was finally installed!

I know it is a first world problem, but I have been missing this machine so much…welcome, shiny new dishwasher!

Bosch-Dishwasher

So for today’s My Friday Five, I list some reasons why I am not totally crazy in wanting to have a dishwasher…

Use Less Water

Dishwashers use less water which is no surprise…I seem to go through litres as everything has to be washed and rinsed at least once!

And many modern dishwashers nowadays…if not all…have a water saver setting.

Plus you can choose whether to use a heavy wash cycle or just a rinse….so much better then running the tap while hand washing everything!

Kill those Germs

I am a bit of a germaphobe…my husband is immune suppressed due to a liver transplant, so we do have to be extra careful.

The thought of all the germs that could be hiding in a sponge or dish mop really worries me.

A dishwasher is able to heat to a temperature that will kill most of those nasties…way hotter then what we could put our hands into!

Everything Sparkles

Everything is so much cleaner after going through a dishwasher!

For example, we drink tea from double walled glasses, and after over six weeks of hand washing, they have become somewhat stained.

First thing I did after the new dishwasher was installed was to do is run them all through a good wash!

No Clutter

After a meal, everything can be put straight into the dishwasher…no dishes sitting on the sink.

Out of sight, out of mind…and hopefully out of reach of those pesky ants.

And most importantly…so you don’t have to!

Having a dishwasher means no squabbling over who is washing or who is drying…just pack the dishwasher and it’s done.

Some view this as being just as much a chore, but I much prefer it as the end result is so much better!

We stack the dishwasher during the day, and then put it on when we go to bed at night.

Whoever is up first in the morning…usually my husband…empties it and the cycle starts again.

The dishwasher would be one of the most used items in this house…I am so happy we have a working one again!
