I haven’t done a Mag Monday for a while but I have a really interesting publication to share with you today.

When we were at Melbournalia about a month or so ago, I came across the first edition of the Melbourne Dura…a unique print magazine that presents historical “Melbourne tales of intrigue and wonder”.

Melbourne-Dura

Printed in black and white,  and in a large A3 format, the Melbourne Dura is like nothing else I have ever read…and I have no doubt that it will become a collectors item in the future

It’s aim is to re-present Melbourne’s history, culture and society in an exciting way…to give you an idea of what is within the covers, here is a snapshot of the contents…

However, Melbourne Dura is not something you browse through quickly…it is jam packed full of words…64 pages of them to be exact!

You certainly get your money’s worth…

Melbourne-Dura-Inside

The Melbourne Dura can take hours to browse through and absorb all the info… and I have to be honest and say I found it quite a hard read for my often foggy brain.

This is about as far as you can get from the usual glossy magazines…but if you are into satire, politics and history, then you will absolutely love this!

You may also learn some new English words which will have you reaching for a dictionary….I certainly did…

For some light relief from focusing on the small print, there are some strategically placed ads plus plenty of pictures…black and white is a format that I love as I find it adds grittiness and depth to images.

I found this image particularly fascinating…this is a building that once stood in Queens Street…

The Melbourne Dura is more then just a magazine…it’s a history book, a political paper…a work of art.

Yes, it is not quite to my taste, but I do appreciate the effort put into it’s creation!
